Best Gamma Exposure (GEX) Tools in 2026

Updated October 29, 2026 · prices and features read on each vendor’s own site

TradeAI News publishes this page and is one of the eleven tools listed. We describe our own limits the same way as everyone else’s, and we say when another tool suits you better.

The short answer

There is no single best GEX tool. The right one depends on what you trade (SPX and same-day options, ETFs or single stocks), how often you need the numbers to update, whether you want to see how they are calculated, and your budget. The table compares eleven tools on those points, using only what each vendor states publicly.

What to check before you choose

Coverage. Some tools cover only SPX, SPY and QQQ; others list thousands of tickers. Update frequency. Open interest is published once a day, after settlement, so intraday GEX changes come from price and implied volatility, not from new open interest. Published method. Every GEX number depends on a sign convention: which side dealers are assumed to hold. Open-interest date. Ask how old it is and whether the chart says so. Price and trial. Several tools have a free tier with delayed data.

Monthly list prices before discounts, as shown on each pricing page on October 29, 2026 (Volland: October 30, 2026). Where a vendor’s own pricing page shows conflicting figures for the same plan, we do not quote one: “see vendor site”. Vendors change prices often; check the linked page before you subscribe.

Who each tool suits

SpotGamma is built around index options: TRACE for SPX, HIRO for intraday hedging impact and Equity Hub for single stocks, with daily research notes [S1]. Its free SPX chart states its sign convention and is updated daily [S2]. Choose it for proprietary levels and commentary from the same vendor.

MenthorQ publishes gamma levels for stocks and futures and a levels model for same-day expirations [S4]; it suits futures traders. Unusual Whales centers on options trade data and adds a GEX heatmap, with SPX exposure every 10 minutes [S5]. OptionScout and QuantWheel publish a free GEX page per ticker [S7][S8]. ZeroGEX documents its method in detail and covers SPX, NDX and index futures with a page for same-day expirations [S10][S13]. GammaFlip covers US options and crypto with the same method [S14]. GEXRadar states 3,500+ tickers with a 2-second refresh [S16]. GEX Levels draws levels on the charting platform you already use [S17]. Volland infers dealer positioning from each options trade rather than from open interest, shows vanna, charm, theta and rho exposure, and updates every 2 minutes; same-day expirations start with its $250/mo plan [S21][S22] (TradeAI News vs Volland).

TradeAI News, including its limits

TradeAI News computes estimated gamma exposure itself, from the options chain: implied volatility is back-solved from the bid-ask midpoint, gamma follows from Black-Scholes, and exposure per strike is gamma × open interest × 100 × spot² × 1%. The sign convention (dealers long calls, short puts) is on the page, and so is the age of the open interest [S19]. Next to the gamma structure, the same account shows SEC Form 4 insider filings, FINRA short interest, SEC fails-to-deliver, an Event Study and a trade journal that records the gamma regime at each entry.

Not the right tool if you trade same-day expirations (contracts expiring that day are left out during their own session), need SPX weeklies (SPX uses monthly contracts only), want minute-by-minute GEX, need an options trade tape, or want proprietary levels with daily commentary. Open interest reaches us two trading sessions after the session it describes [S19].

How we compiled this

Every figure comes from the vendor’s own pricing, product or methodology page, read on October 29, 2026 (Volland: October 30, 2026) and listed below. We did not use third-party reviews and did not test paid plans. Coverage and refresh claims are reported as each vendor states them; we have not measured them. Where a page did not say, the cell says so. Fintel, GetGamma and GuruFocus are not listed because their pages could not be read on that date. If you are a vendor and something here is out of date, write to support@tradeainews.com and we will correct it with the date of the change.

Frequently asked questions

What is gamma exposure (GEX)?
GEX estimates how much hedging options dealers would need to do in the underlying as its price moves, summed across strikes. It rests on an assumption about which side of each option dealers hold, which is why the sign convention matters.
Is there a free SPY GEX chart?
Yes. TradeAI News shows SPY estimated gamma, the gamma flip and the age of its data at tradeainews.com/gamma-exposure without an account. OptionScout, QuantWheel, ZeroGEX and GammaFlip also publish free pages, some with delayed data.
Does gamma exposure predict where price will go?
No. GEX describes the hedging structure around price levels under a stated assumption about dealer positioning. It says nothing about direction, and no tool on this list turns it into a forecast.
